This collar was just what the doctor ordered. Our chocolate lab stayed within her bounds for two years and then suddenly started breaking out. The original collar just wasn’t enough after she got bigger. We tried everything; new battery, stronger signal, tighter collar to no avail. Then we saw this and the reviews were right. She has not broken her barrier since the new collar has been on. Be careful to adjust the levels though, we forgot to turn down the transmitter and with the new collar, it didn’t need to be as high. It is a great relief to have her back in boundary again.

Finally we found a collar that works on our Beagle. The product description said for “stubborn” dogs. Akitas. Malamutes. Pinchers. They have nothing on a beagle with a scent to follow. Well, this one works. It’s our third collar in a year. We’re hopeful.

It’s important to understand that “the job” in question here is “issues a strong correction”, and is not “guarantees your dog won’t leave the boundary.” The Radio Fence is a great product, but it is _not_ a fence…it is a _training aid_. As a training aid, I can recommend this collar as a — hopefully temporary — boosted version of the regular collar for the “stubborn” dog. In our case, the dog in question is an 8-month old yellow lab female we acquired in a rescue scenario (prior owner was giving up, found her unmanageable). She is a boisterous, active pup who has spent most of her life without _any_ correction, and for her safety and our sanity, we needed something that would get her attention. This collar did the trick…she is now respectful of the boundaries, and we plan to change her to the regular collar shortly. (When we move to our summer cottage in a couple of months, we’ll probably have to use it again…)

I have a chocolate lab and when I first installed the fence he was still a 3 month old puppy. Originally I went with the petsafe stubborn dog fence but upon looking at the size of the collar which is the same as this one I am reviewing, I decided it is too big to put on my cute little puppy. So, I switched to the deluxe version that beeps which worked fine until my dog was 7 months when he realized that it was worth it for him to get the shock and get loose. So I bought this collar, and for the last 5 days he is staying in the yard. He was shocked once when I first bought it and hasn’t tried to get out since. I think part of it is the size, beeping, vibration and also the stronger shock. Compared to the light collar, this uses a standard 9V battery which is cheaper and easier to find than the petsafe kind. Doing some research, there are two packages for this receiver, RF-275 and PRF-275. Both are the same. The PRF-275 is an older packaging. It is the same exact receiver on both.
Overall, I would recommend this collar if you have a big size dog.
UPDATE: About a month after I purchased this product, my dog started running the fence again to go play with the neighbors dogs. Now it happens daily! Don’t know what to do. My rating would be 3 stars as it all depends on your dog. Amazon wouldn’t let me change the star rating.

After a couple of escape attemps, my very stubborn Boxer decided that it wasn’t worth “correction” and now respects his boundries. Other systems were not powerful enoungh but this one seems to have done the trick- I hope!
